No Slips, No Worries: Finding the Right Denture Adhesive for Your Smile

As a denture wearer, you may already know how having a snug fit is important. With them being secure, you can talk and eat with those around you without worrying about slipping. To help give you some more confidence in avoiding this, you may turn to denture adhesives. However, there are many products out there, so you might need some help choosing. Keep reading to learn about three popular options and which one is right for you.

1.)  Denture Creams

This form of adhesive is often the most used because it offers a strong hold. It usually comes in a convenient tube that helps you place the right amount of product. Many people even notice that it offers just a bit of cushioning to their gums!

However, it can be a bit easy to be messy. If you apply too much, then it can ooze out. Additionally, you have to pick the right brands as some contain zinc, which can cause adverse effects when consumed in excess amounts.

You may benefit from a cream if you plan to wear it for a long time and want that extra comfort and secure hold.

2.)  Denture Powders

The option above may feel weird for certain people as the texture throws them off. An alternative is powders, as you sprinkle it on clean, wet dentures and then pop them into place. Because you can shake off any excess, they usually don’t cause much mess, and they feel a bit lighter than creams. If you have a sensitive palate, then you may benefit from it as well.

That being said, they don’t offer as much cushion and might not last as long as the product above. If you need to head somewhere quickly, then this option is a fast way that still gives you a snug fit.

3.)  Denture Adhesive Strips

These are pre-sized options that can be the easiest to use. All you have to do is peel away the backing and apply them to your clean, dry dentures. Like the other ones, they do offer a lasting hold, but you don’t have to deal with any mess that can happen from creams or powders.

Since strips are already cut, they may not be a good fit for your prosthetic right away. Some people have to trim them and ensure that they don’t overlap. But if you have limited dexterity or want the most convenience, then this may be a great option.

Which One Is Best for Me?

In the end, the “right” choice depends on what your needs are! Playing around with the different options can help you understand how they feel to let you find one that’s most comfortable for you. You might even swap them out depending on what you have planned for the day.

Denture adhesives are a great option to help your prosthetic feel secure. Once you find the right product for you and add it to your routine, you can help ensure your restored smile stays snug.
